On September 16, Stewart, Asian particular representative of British Columbia, Canada stated that British Columbia BC for short had already prepared for provide service to China to meet Chinese growing LNG demand. BC will enhance the cooperation with China, the second partner to seek for more business opportunities for LNG.
According to the data from National Development and Reform Commission, the gap between demand and supply in 2013 reached 10 billion cubic meters. Gas reserves in BC can be exploited for more than 150 years. Meanwhile annual gas yield is about 1.4 trillion cubic feet. For that, BC have amount of gas to supply to China.
In the past three years, Beijing Office of BC worked closely with Sinopec, China Huadian Corporation and their subsidiary corporations.
Stewart said, “As an important gateway that North America leads to China, BC has the shortest shipping lines away from China.” Moreover, BC has over 1.3 ten thousand skilled workers in gas industry. “If manpower is insufficient, according to the contract signed by BC government and Canadian government, BC can seek more manpower in other Canadian provinces or even other countries.” He said.
Stewart said that BC was a reliable gas supplier. Once Canadian government promises to export gas, it will not cut off gas supply for political or economic reasons, bringing risks to investors.
At present, final investments decisions on 2 programs of 18 LNG programs having been planned will be made by the end of 2014 or the early of 2015. Pipe construction will cost about 3 years. Nevertheless, the first LNG program is planed to go into operation in the second half of 2017 and transmit gas to China.
